My father was a paratrooper in the 101st airborne at normandy, bastone and others. I remember as a young girl growing up, around the holiday table he would tell us the funny stories that happened. But one stuck in my mind and kind of put everthing in to perspective...

He said, during a very bad battle on a cold winters day, the ground covered in a thick blanket of blood stained snow, between the the two sides of artilary shooting, in the middle of all this, a patch of green grass was growing in in the grass, daisies were blooming.
Story has always stuck with me.

Please, if anyone in the 101st airborne, paratroopers remembers a man named Mr. Dudley W. Barnette...nickname lefty...please contact us at
